If the Lamborghini Aventador is out of your price range, don’t even think about the Aventador toy model.
A 1:8 scale replica made from carbon, platinum gold and precious stones will go on the auction block in December by Sotheby’s in either Dubai or New York with a starting price of €3.5 million, or $4.8 million, nearly 12 times the price of a real Aventador, which costs $370,000 to $400,000. To bypass the auction, one can pick up the model for €4.5 million, or $6.17 million.
Robert Gülpen spent about 500 hours to complete the car model. Gülpen is a 52-year-old mechanical engineer in Germany who began making model cars since the late 1990s. This particular model — the world’s most expensive — will be displayed in a bulletproof glass case with electronic safeguards at the Frankfurt Auto Show from Sept. 15 to 25.
“This is a high-tech work of art,” German website chiemgau-online reported Gülpen saying. “I wanted to do something unique, something that has not existed until now.”
