When it comes to setting speed records, electric and hybrid vehicles are where it’s at. Earlier this month, Larry “Spiderman” McBride pushed the bar for EVs higher than ever before on his Lawless Electric Rocket bike. A quarter mile run took him just 6.94 seconds, and he hit 201.37 mph. That makes the e-bike not only the fastest electric motorcycle, but the fastest electric vehicle, full stop, according to GreenCarReports.com.

This is no bike made for the street: the 355 volt lithium battery pack weighs 250 pounds and pumps out 1,340 horsepower. And by the end of the record-setting run, it was nearly dead. To keep the Lawless Electric Rocket upright, its builders, Lawless Industries and Orange County Choppers (featured in Discovery’s American Chopper), added a metal frame off the back. Even so, when McBride takes off, his front wheel pops up, but he holds on as he rockets to more than 200 mph.
