Ready to hit the road for Memorial Day weekend?

Not so fast — unless you feel like sitting in bumper-to-bumper traffic. Social mapping app Waze has collected data on traffic, finding the best times to embark on road trips this holiday weekend. The results can be surprising.

The infographic above analyzes nationwide traffic levels. Traffic can begin as early as 10 a.m. Friday but peaks between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. There’ll likely be a sharp drop in road volume between 4 p.m. and 5 p.m., declining the rest of the evening. The best time to hit the road? Before 10 a.m. or after 4 p.m.
