Ford is hard at work on the next-generation Ford Mustang, which is expected to be released in 2014 as a 2015 model. It’s being reported that the next Mustang is going to become more modern and at the same time its retro-styling is being toned down. According to the Wall Street Journal, Ford hopes to attract a younger audience with a Mustang that draws less inspiration from the original 1960′s model.
Ford insiders recently revealed to the Wall Street Journal that Ford hopes to stop the Mustang’s dipping sales with a new Mustang that will appeal more to a younger audience. The insiders stated that the new Mustang will draw most of its styling cues from the Evos concept and the all-new 2013 Ford Fusion. According to those that have seen the new Mustang, it looks a lot like the Evos concept that was unveiled last year.
Ford Mustang sales have continued to decline since 2006, when Ford sold 166,530 units. Last year Ford only sold 70,438 Mustangs. Ford feels that a more modern styled Mustang will attract a younger demographic and will give it the style that it needs to compete with the Chevy Camaro and Dodge Challenger.
This isn’t the first time that Ford has tried to make the Mustang more modern, but lets hope they won’t make the same mistakes as before. Who remembers the Ford Probe?
