Here’s your first look at the updated Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG supercar. Mercedes-Benz has just unveiled all the details on the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT (note the addition of the GT to its name). The SLS AMG GT will continue to be offered in both coupe and roadster versions, but the updates for the new model year bring more power under the hood and better driving dynamics to help you get around the track even faster.
For starters the 2013 SLS AMG GT is powered by a 6.2L V8 that generates 583 horsepower, 20 more than before. It’s final torque output of 479 lb-ft. remains the same as the outgoing model. The V8 is mated to a seven-speed transmission that gets newly developed gear change logic and optimized transmission control to shorten the reaction time significantly during shifts. The transmission also features a manual mode. Due to a modified engine mapping profile that changes the engine torque delivered in manual mode, the shift procedure is even quicker than before. The 2013 SLS AMG GT reaches 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and has a top speed that is electronically limited to 197 mph.
The exterior of the 2013 SLS AMG GT gets darkened headlamp and taillight lenses, a unique wheel color and red-painted brake calipers. The wing-shaped cross fins and the star recess in the radiator grille are given a new high-gloss black finish, as do the exterior mirrors and the fins on the hood and front fenders. The AMG logo on the right of the trunk lid also features the additional letters “GT” to clearly identify this new model.
The 2013 SLS AMG GT doesn’t only get updates to the exterior and under the hood. It’s driving dynamics have been improved thanks to a new AMG Adaptive Performance Suspension that features stiffer and more aggressive spring/damper tuning. The suspension has two modes: Sport and Sport Plus, which can be selected via a button on the AMG drive unit. Thanks to its enhanced driving dynamics the 2013 SLS AMG GT has faster track times than the outgoing SLS AMG.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT will arrive in November.
