Scosche cellCONTROL: $129.99
Late last year, the National Transportation Safety Board made a push for cellular carriers to advance technology that prevents drivers from texting while at the wheel. Apps like T-Mobile’s DriveSmart as well as phone-specific devices have been created, but because of opinions from differing sides, a universal plan has yet to be adopted. The device connects to a OBD-II port, which is in most cars built after 1996. It uses Bluetooth signaling to disable usage by blocking calls, messaging and Internet use when the vehicle is in motion. If a hands-free device is connected or the car stops moving, the phone’s features will be accessible. Clever kids who hope to disable the device once they are away from home may want to rethink their plan. That's because an alert will automatically be sent to an administrator via text or email when it’s deactivated or tampered with. The device is compatible with 1,200 devices and is currently available on their site.
