GE Universal Electric Vehicle Charging Station: $999.99

Finding a gas station to fill up your car? Fairly easy. Finding a charging station to charge your electric vehicle? For now, not so easy. Coda Automotive has tapped GE to sell chargers on the same “shelves” as their EVs. The fact that Coda and GE partnered to sell these two items together isn’t all that surprising. Coda has been known for thinking outside of the box in terms of sales. This is the same company that has set a goal to sell 50,000 EVs by 2015. The new line just started production this week and can go 150 miles on one charge, costing about $40,000 before government rebates.

The GE WattStation Wall Mount 240-volt Level 2 charger that can fully charge a 24 kWh battery in four to eight hours. It can be hard-wired or used as-needed by plugging it in. The WattStation can be placed outside without getting damaged thanks to it’s NEMA 3R rated enclosure that’s safe against harsh weather. While both companies have their fair share of competitors, (Ecotality Blink and Nissan Leaf, to name a few) the partnership could bode well for both parties. Coda becomes associated with a well-known brand, and GE’s product basically becomes an at-home gas station for EV drivers.
