Killer Whale Flicks Sea Lion Into the Air With Its Tail

//

An orca recently sent a sea lion airborne with just the flick of its tail, according to Alaska-based Anglers Adventures, which videotaped the event.

In the video, which has since gone viral, you can see how a sea lion tried to hide underneath a charter fishing boat just before the air toss.

Here’s how Brian Ringeisen of Anglers Adventures described it:

This morning near Ketchikan, Alaska a sea lion was hiding under our fishing boat because he was being stalked by a killer whale. When we decided to leave the area the whale attacked the sea lion and tossed him 20 feet into the air! Footage taken August 15, 2014 while fishing with Anglers Adventures of Ketchikan, Alaska on the F/V Sierra Dawn.

Some people have questioned the veracity of the footage, such as this USA Today report. So much on the Internet is suspect these days. But the author, Nate Scott, concluded that the video is as stated by Anglers Adventures.

As Scott wrote, “We choose to believe in the magic and power of Mother Nature.”

It remains unknown if the sea lion lived to tell the tale, but orcas, a.k.a. killer whales, have to eat too.
