Run Sea Pigs, Run! No, this isn’t a scene from a modern re-make of “The Abyss” and they’re certainly not alien… at least not in the “we come from outer space” sense.
These are sea cucumbers — a.k.a. sea pigs — galloping across the sea bed at a depth of 2.3 kilometers in Endeavor Ridge off of Vancouver Island.
These cute invertebrates don’t move this fast, however. The video has been sped up 10 times, otherwise we’d be waiting a while to watch our sluggish little sea pigs — which belong to the genera Amperima or Periamma — graze on the seabed.
Watch that starfish “run” at 39 seconds into the video! via io9
