Many furry animals shake their bodies to rid themselves of water. While this can be a detriment to a white couch, it's essential for survival of the animal in the wild. Wet fur can lower body temperatures and cause other issues for these mammals. As an adaptation they evolved to shake most of the water off their fur very quickly. Dogs, for example, can remove 70 percent of the water from their fur in less than 4 seconds. via Nature Video
