New Ladybug is More Turtle than Bug: A newly discovered insect in the western United States is not just a new species, but an entirely new genus, reports Reuters.
The classification is so unique as this bug can tuck it's head into it's throat similar to how a turtle can hide it's head to protect itself. The insect was collected by Montana State University entomology graduate student Ross Winton using traps set in a sand dune. According to the report, he first thought he was looking at pieces of an ant, but soon discovered the new bug's secret.
It's very rare to discover a new beetle, let alone set a new genus. In response to the discover the student told Reuters, "Whatever this does, it is very specialized. It's quite the exciting little beast." via Reuters
