Monkey Sex Preferred in Private: Monkeys
like to do the deed out of the way of prying eyes, reports the Huffington Post.
A study in the journal
Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology found that long-tailed macaques will more often have their sex away
from the crowd.
But the researchers don't think they're bashful. Rather, "By concealing sexual behaviour,
females and subordinate males try to reduce harassment from group members," study co-author Anne
Overduin-de Vries, a doctoral student at the university, told the AFP. "Although harassment is
not frequent, it may have serious consequences such as getting injured or not being able to finish a
copulation."
One note: The dominant male can copulate in full view of the group, just because he da man.
