Lonesome George Tortoise Extinct: Lonesome George, a Pinta giant tortoise, believed to be the last of his sub-species died on Sunday at the ripe old age of anyone’s guess is possible – somewhere in the 100s, most likely. Though Lonesome George had no other tortoises of his kind to successfully breed with, he had plenty of friends with benefits at the at the Charles Darwin Research Station on the Galapagos Islands.
