Tasmanian devils are so close to extinction that conservationists are running out of long-term options. Swift and decisive action may be needed to prevent these carnivorous marsupials from disappearing off the face of the earth in our lifetime. The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports that authorities may attempt to sustain a population of healthy Tasmanian devils on an island, in hopes that the animals will not succumb to devil facial tumor disease, which is rapidly killing off mainland devils.
