Dead Whale in Boston Harbor:
A dead 50-foot Fin whale (Balaenoptera physalus) was found floating in Boston Harbor on Sunday. Biologists from the New England Aquarium investigated the carcass and reported seeing bruising and pressure lines indicating something wrapped around the whale. They do not suspect the whale died in the harbor, but was likely either dragged in by a boat or washed in by tides. The Stellwagen Bank National Marine Sanctuary, a habitat for Fin and endangered North Atlantic Right whales, lies in the major shipping lane to and from Boston Harbor, according to the USGS.
