Bears hibernate in dens. People watch TV in the dens of their homes.

Apparently a bear in Hopatcong, N.J., didn't understand the different definitions of the word den.

In a Goldilocks role reversal, a cable TV repairman entered a home on Wednesday afternoon to perform scheduled repairs and found a 500-pound bear slumbering in the basement, reported WNBC-TV in New York. No evidence of just-right porridge was reported.

The breaking and entering bear ran from the house before New Jersey Fish and Game officials arrived.

By about 3 p.m., the bear had been knocked out by a tranquilizer dart and subsequently relocated by officials.

Neighbors reported seeing the basement-bound bear earlier in the afternoon.
