Jonesin’ to shred but there’s no snow in sight? Looking to put some more fun and excitement into your downhill runs? Take an ordinary stretch of road and turn it into a sweet place to slide and shred with a Freebord, the skateboard that lets you snowboard on dry pavement.

The Freebord lets you simulate snowboarding because of two extra wheels mounted in the center of the board, which enable the board to move in all directions. The outer wheels are the de facto ‘edges’ of the board, and because they are positioned slightly off the ground, a rider can either apply weight to them for carving, or put the weight on the center wheels for some wicked sliding.

Here’s a little teaser of what a Freebord is capable of, captured on some of the gnarly hills of San Francisco:

Like most awesome things, what looks easy on video is actually quite difficult in real life, and according to Freebord.com,

“Riding a Freebord looks easy, but it’s not. As a beginner, you have to commit to the idea that you’re snowboarding on pavement (not skateboarding). Just like learning to snowboard, it may take several days or weeks to get the hang of it even if you rip on snow.”
