"Unsafe" Skateboarding is Now Punishable in Los Angeles

Remember when Marty McFly latched onto a car while riding his skateboard in the Back to the Future trilogy? Well, if he went to the year 2012 and ended up in L.A., he might have gotten a $250 fine. That’s right; according to the L.A. Times, a new law passed in the city of Los Angeles now makes “unsafe” skateboarding a illegal offense — punishable with a fine of $250. “Unsafe” skateboarding includes not following traffic signs, “bombing” (when you gun it down a hill really fast, like in the X-Games), and being towed by a vehicle à la McFly.

Obviously the laws were put into effect as a means to keep safety on the streets, not just for skateboarders, but for the others around them. But what’s skateboarding without a little cuts and bruises?
