Introducing the mother of all equine adventures, The Mongol Derby, featuring riders crossing 1000 kilometers of Mongolian wilderness, changing horses every 40 kilometers by using a network of 25 horse stations across the steppes.

The adventure, the longest and toughest horse race in the world, is a recreation of the postal system set up by the legendary Chinggis (Genghis) Khaan:

“In 1224 man of the millennium Chinggis Khaan set up the world’s first long-distance postal transmission system. Using a massive network of horse stations – morin urtuus in Mongolian – his hardy messengers could gallop from Kharkhorin to the Caspian sea in a number of days.”

This epic dash across the steppes leads riders through forest, river, and plains in the classic Adventurist ‘Un-Route’ mode, with riders taking about a week to finish up.

This year’s Mongol Derby starts on the 10th of August, and if you want to get in the running for next year’s event, you better sign up soon, as there are only 35 places available for 2013.
