A few months ago, we mentioned that Outside magazine was holding a contest in celebration of their 35th anniversary. The grand prize: a $10,000 grant for one lucky adventurer (or pair of) to fulfill a once-in-a-lifetime dream adventure — provided that it is chronicled and buzzworthy enough to grace the pages of the long-running periodical. Well, the search has been narrowed down to just five formidable contestants:

• Daniel Alvarez, who proposes to paddle through the heart of America
• Quinn Langbauer & Mike Tassels Richard, who want to bike across Siberia
• Ben Mayberry, who yearns to trek the American west
• Ali Bayless & Hannah Bassett, who aspire to sail and soul-search along the Californian coast
• Chase Berenson & Charla Hughes, who plan on traveling the expanse of Thailand solely by tuk-tuk
