Find the Adventures Waiting Around the Corner with Google Field Trip

//

Put down those TPS reports everyone, there’s an adventure waiting just outside. That’s right, on that street you walk down every day. Or maybe it’s around the corner. That stoop, alley, storefront, and path all hold secrets. Secrets that were hidden in plain sight. At least, they were hidden.

Field Trip, a new app from Google, promises to reveal these secret spots as we pass by them, in real time.

The app, which currently is only available for Android phones, runs in the background. When a user approaches a documented point of interest, a card pops up offering the details. The app draws on expert knowledge from a range of sources, including Zagat, the Food Network, Atlas Obscura, and more to create a layered map of a place that caters to any interest.

How well does it work? Well, that’s for you to decide. But the point is to get out and find the undiscovered—even if it’s in your own neighborhood—and that’s something we can all get excited about.
