Driving 3,500 Km across Peru in a Three-Wheeled Sofa: The Mototaxi Junket Adventure

To some, high adventure means bagging peaks or BASE jumping off of massive cliffs or trekking to remote areas with just a pack on your back. And to others, it means driving a glorified sofa over some of the worst roads in the world.

To some, high adventure means bagging peaks or BASE jumping off of massive cliffs or trekking to remote areas with just a pack on your back. And to others, it means driving a glorified sofa over some of the worst roads in the world.

If that’s you, then you’re gonna love the Mototaxi Junket, brought to you by The Adventurists.

What’s a mototaxi?

“Imagine a motorbike. Then imagine a smaller one. Then cut it in half and stick a not terribly comfy sofa on the back. With three wheels, half an engine, steering that works faultlessly in straight lines and brakes that slow you down gently, the Mototaxi re-defines modern travel in the 21st century.” – The Adventurists

Here’s a little intro to this devilish transportation device:

Sound like fun? In September of 2012, teams of hardy adventurers will set off from Piura, in northwestern Peru, and drive for about 3500km, across the Andes and through the Amazon, and with any luck will end up in Cuzco, Peru, a couple of weeks later. They’ll pay £1095 per team for the privilege, as well as raising a minimum of £1000 for charity, £500 of which goes to the Adventurists official charity for this junket, Practical Action.
